Y is ee in a hurry. If ee comes out, Y is very close.
Say a long eee.
Now slide from eee into ah: ee-ah, ee-ah.

The middle of the tongue rises
Not the tip: the body of the tongue, toward the roof of the mouth, as for EE.
The soft palate closes the nose
The air goes through the mouth.
The tongue glides
From EE it slides down into the next vowel.
And the throat buzzes
You can't see this one from outside: trust your ear.
Two
The same mouth, syllable by syllable and up close: this is the model they'll copy in the mirror.
